We are on our way with Reading Street!

This week marks the beginning of Reading Street instruction.  The students loved watching the concept video about transportation, singing the weekly song, practicing the letters Aa, Bb,and Cc, and working with rhyming words.  I was very impressed with their energy and excitement while learning their 2 new sight words I and am.  Everyone was focused and enjoyed reading their first book.  Please continue to read their sight word book, I Am!  several times throughout the week.  Remind your little one that they should point to each word as they read to help increase their ability on tracking words. I am looking forward to our 2nd day of Reading Street when we work on the letters Dd and Ee as well as continuing our learning about characters in a story.

I would also like to inform you that if pages come home unfinished please do not get concerned.  Our workbook is very hard for students to use independently.  Before your child is sent to work on their own, I model all the pages on the SMART board along with having many volunteers share their thinking.
If you would like additional practice time at home, below is a copy of our practice pages for this week.  :)

Weekly Reflection

What a great week! It was so nice to have all week getting to know your child.  Please check your child's Wednesday/Thursday folder for PTA information and a questionnaire from me.  Your responses and information are so helpful in understanding how I can encourage your child to be the best student possible.

Next week we will continue to work on classroom procedures  and continue with our learning of letters and different comprehension skills.

Please continue to ask your child about their day and learning.  We are busy, busy learners. :)

It's Going To Be A GREAT Year!

This week we practiced classroom procedures and how to work with others. We also wrote about our day and practiced numbers.  Please check your child's book bag for his/her exploration with letters and using a glue stick.
