Good Morning!

I have received emails about the sight word book, I Am!   If you need an additional copy you can print it off from the blog post, We Are On Our Way With Reading Street.  Click on the icon of the work book pages and it will direct you to my Scribd site where you can download pages 3 and 4.

We are on our way with Reading Street!

This week marks the beginning of Reading Street instruction.  The students loved watching the concept video about transportation, singing the weekly song, practicing the letters Aa, Bb,and Cc, and working with rhyming words.  I was very impressed with their energy and excitement while learning their 2 new sight words I and am.  Everyone was focused and enjoyed reading their first book.  Please continue to read their sight word book, I Am!  several times throughout the week.  Remind your little one that they should point to each word as they read to help increase their ability on tracking words. I am looking forward to our 2nd day of Reading Street when we work on the letters Dd and Ee as well as continuing our learning about characters in a story.  


I would also like to inform you that if pages come home unfinished please do not get concerned.  Our workbook is very hard for students to use independently.  Before your child is sent to work on their own, I model all the pages on the SMART board along with having many volunteers share their thinking.

New Reading Program!

 I am so excited for your child to experience a new literacy program called Reading Street.  I used the program last year in 2nd grade and loved it.  In your child's room he or she will receive whole group and small group instruction which allows for differentiation of instruction.  The materials and books are very engaging and have students wishing for more literacy time! :)


Your child will learn through different "units of study" that incorporate key concepts of Social Studies and Science along literacy skills.  Each week your child will learn songs and poems around the theme, read books at their level, and focus on fundamental comprehension skills needed to become successful readers.  I can't wait for your child to experience this interactive and literature rich based program.
