PM Field Trip Information

Dear Parents,

It is time to start preparing for the field trip! The kindergarten classes will be going to the Drake Planetarium and Science Center (at Norwood High School) on Wednesday, May 5th. We will be visiting the Planetarium and the Lego Lab. Due to the length of our trip, your child will spend the entire day at school. Since your child will be at school all day on May 5th your child will NOT COME TO SCHOOL TUESDAY, MAY 4th..

Your child will be leaving school at approximately 8:45 a.m. and return to school a little later than their usual lunchtime. Therefore, we are asking that you make sure your child eats a good breakfast before coming to school. Your child will need to bring a sack lunch and a drink to eat when we return to school.

Since your child will be coming to school in the morning on May 5th, you can call the bus garage at 513-752-4020 to get the approximate time the bus will pick up your child in the morning. If you choose to bring your child to school on that day, he/she will have to be here no later than 8:20 a.m. If your child is late, he/she may miss the field trip. We cannot hold the buses to wait for any students that are late. Please mark you calendars with this information since it is a change from your child’s normal schedule.

The cost of the field trip will be $8.00 per child. This includes admission to the Planetarium and the Lego Lab. Please send your child’s money to school on or before April 16th. It is extremely important to send the correct amount of money along with the signed permission slip in an envelope marked with your child’s name. PLEASE, SEND CASH ONLY! WE WILL RETURN CHECKS.

Here a Chick, There a Chick, Everywhere a Chick Chick!

On Thursday, Mrs. Wells gave us the exciting news that our chick HATCHED!!! The students made predictions in their journals about what it would look like and feel like. The students’ predictions were: yellow/soft, dark/wet and yellow/wet. We all anxiously awaited as Mrs. Wells picked up our chick. The students gave a big silent cheer as a cute, yellow, soft chick appeared in her hand. After we observed our chick, the students got a chance to hold their own chick. THEY LOVED IT!!!! Thank you Mrs. Wells for an amazing experience!

Below are the AM/PM chick pictures...enjoy!

A Message From Miss Farro!

Dear Parent(s),

My name is Erica Farro and I am an Early Childhood Education major at the University of Cincinnati. I live in Anderson Township with my parents and three younger siblings. I will be completing my kindergarten student teaching experience in your child’s classroom. I will be in the classroom from March 29, 2010 to June 1, 2010. I will be in the classroom on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Throughout my time in the classroom, I will design and implement several lessons and activities based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards. Each lesson will be reviewed by Miss. Van Eman and my University supervisor. I am very excited that I will be able to implement several science lessons and activities in the classroom because science is one of my favorite subjects! I look forward to meeting you and your child!

Sincerely,

Erica Farro

Our New Classroom Teacher...Miss Farro!

After completing their books, the students read them to their reading buddies. It was so great to see how excited the students were to share their sentences and pictures. Great job writers!

Old Lady Guest Reader!

Normally, we are visited by parents or grandparents but today we had a character from a book. This morning our special guest reader was the "old lady" from There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly! At first the students were confused by an "old" lady walking into our classroom but quickly their excitement level increased when they learned she was our guest reader for the day. As our guest reader continued to read her grandson realized who it was and said, "Take off your wig Mimi!"  Thank you so much, Mimi, for making a lasting memory for my students and myself.   If you would like to be a guest reader please email me at vaneman_l@westcler.org

Student Guest Reader Program

It is inspiring to see just how much my PM students love to read and share their favorite books with their classmates.  After being asked by several students if they can read a book to the class I created the Student Reader Program.  The kids LOVE sitting and listening to their friends read at the end of the day.  It is amazing to see how many kids spend their reading time practicing their favorite books over and over again so they can read it to the class.  I look forward to continuing this program and watching the stories come alive through my students.

3rd Grade Reading Buddies Show Off Their Learning!

On Friday we were invited to watch our Reading Buddies complete their Unit 3 Reading Street theme "How people and nature are connected." The students made brochures to compare and contrast features in nature and along with group volcanos. We loved watching the volcanoes erupt and seeing all the different decorations on them. To thank our reading buddies the students wrote a letter describing the experience and presented it to their reading buddy before dismissal.  Thanks again 3rd Grade Reading Buddies!

Thank You Mr. DeLisle!

Thank you Mr. DeLisle for reading to us. We loved your book about bullies.

Thanks Mrs. Behrend!

Today we were surprised by a parent guest reader, Mrs. Behrend. We loved your book and dancing today. Thanks for reading to us.

Brady's Birthday

Happy Birthday Brady!
I hope you enjoyed your special day. :)

Grandparents Night Pictures!

On Thursday night the room was filled with Grandparents! The students enjoyed showing off their room and reading their "What I Love About You" books.

What Would You Do With A Pot Of Gold?

Today during Writing Workshop the students generated their thoughts about what they would do with a pot of gold.  Their writing has improved SO much and I was amazed to see finger spaces, capital letter in the beginning and a period at the end. I will post writing samples later this week.
